Leadership Conference and CLE in Newport Beach

Stacy Garcia recently traveled to Newport Beach, California to attend the ABOTA Annual Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting, joining fellow members of the Houston ABOTA Executive Committee and National Board Representatives, who attended the conference together in strong support of the chapter and the national organization.

The multi‑day meeting brought together ABOTA leaders from across the country for education, collaboration, and celebration—reinforcing ABOTA’s mission to preserve the right to trial by jury and promote the highest standards of professionalism and civility in the legal profession.

Representing Houston and National Leadership

Ms. Garcia attended the conference in several important leadership capacities. She participated as a National Board Representative, representing the Houston Chapter at the national level; as a member of the Houston ABOTA Executive Committee, where she currently serves as Treasurer; and as Co‑Chair of the ABOTA National Women’s Leadership Conference, a role through which she continues to support leadership development and advancement for women across ABOTA.

Attending alongside the Houston Executive Committee and fellow National Board Representatives underscored the chapter’s unified commitment to active engagement within ABOTA’s national leadership and governance.

Leadership Development and Education

The Annual Leadership Conference featured a robust schedule of meetings and programming designed to support chapter leaders and national officers. A highlight of the week was the ABOTA Chapter Leadership Conference, which included a keynote address by Eric Dickerson, NFL Hall of Fame running back, who shared powerful insights on leadership, resilience, and teamwork.

Additional educational programming included the ABOTA Speaker Series, featuring Dr. Rick Hodes, Medical Director of the Ethiopia Spine and Heart Project of the American Jewish Distribution Committee. His presentation offered a compelling reminder of the impact of service, compassion, and advocacy—values that closely align with ABOTA’s mission.

National Meetings and Fellowship

Throughout the week, Ms. Garcia participated in key national meetings, including leadership sessions, task force discussions, and the ABOTA National Board Meeting, where members from across the country gather to guide the future direction of the organization. The schedule also included receptions and networking events that provided meaningful opportunities for connection and collaboration among ABOTA leaders.

Honoring Leadership and Looking Ahead

A central focus of the weekend was celebrating ABOTA’s leadership transition. Members came together to congratulate outgoing President Jennifer Doan for her exemplary service and dedication, while formally welcoming incoming President William Shapiro during the inaugural ceremonies and installation dinner. The events marked both a reflection on ABOTA’s accomplishments and an exciting outlook for the organization’s future.
