On November 21, 2025, Attorney Stacy Garcia joined colleagues at the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) Houston Chapter annual dinner and new member induction, held at the elegant Briar Club in Houston. This special evening provided an opportunity for members to come together, enjoy the company of peers from both sides of the aisle, celebrate the chapter’s accomplishments, and welcome incredibly deserving new members into the organization.
The event was made even more memorable by the presence of Mitzi Mayfield, President of TEX-ABOTA, and Jennifer Doan, National ABOTA President, who attended to honor and celebrate Houston’s chapter—currently the second largest ABOTA chapter in the country. Their participation underscores the significance of the Houston chapter’s contributions to advancing professionalism, civility, and the right to jury trial.
What is ABOTA?
The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to preserving and promoting the Seventh Amendment right to a civil jury trial. ABOTA emphasizes professionalism, civility, and integrity in the legal profession. Its core principles include:
Preserving the right to trial by jury
Promoting civility and professionalism among trial lawyers
Educating the public about the importance of jury trials
Membership in ABOTA is by invitation only and reserved for attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional trial experience and a commitment to these values.
Houston Chapter Accomplishments in 2025
The Houston Chapter had an outstanding year, marked by significant achievements and events, including:
Hosting national meetings in Cabo San Lucas, Banff, and Austin, Texas
Sponsoring the Women’s Leadership Summit, promoting diversity and leadership in the legal profession
Organizing a Judicial Night honoring judges from Harris County and surrounding counties
Active participation in numerous state and national events and committees, reinforcing ABOTA’s mission and influence
