Stacy Garcia Coaches University of Houston Law Center Team at TEX-ABOTA Voir Dire Competition in Lubbock
We’re proud to share that Stacy Garcia, firm partner and passionate advocate for trial excellence, recently traveled to Lubbock, Texas to serve as a coach for the University of Houston Law Center mock trial team at the TEX-ABOTA Best in Texas Voir Dire Competition.
Hosted by TEX-ABOTA, the competition brought together teams from all 10 law schools in Texas, each entering one team to compete in conducting voir dire and delivering an opening statement. In a remarkable effort to simulate real courtroom conditions, TEX-ABOTA assembled over 400 mock jurors, creating an authentic and challenging environment for student advocates.
Ms. Garcia coached the UH team alongside fellow ABOTA member Sherra Gilbert of the Gilbert Law Firm. In the weeks leading up to the competition, Stacy and Sherra dedicated many hours working with the law students, teaching the art and strategy of voir dire, and conducting practice sessions with local mock jurors to prepare the team for the intensity of the event.
A Proud Moment for UH Law
Thanks to their mentorship and the students’ hard work, the University of Houston team advanced to the semi-finals, demonstrating exceptional skill and professionalism. One of the UH advocates was also honored with the award for Best Voir Dire of the entire competition—a testament to the team’s preparation and poise under pressure.
This event not only showcased the talent of Texas law students but also highlighted the commitment of lawyers like Stacy Garcia in fostering the next generation of trial lawyers.
Congratulations to all of the participants, and a special thank you to TEX-ABOTA for hosting such a meaningful and well-executed event. We’re proud of Ms. Garcia’s continued dedication to legal education and mentorship.
